Joining
NOTE: The only thing on this forum that you are required to read is the "Guide to Joining" thread. Unique and site-specific rules are in red.
Check the Adoptable Characters thread before making a character. Someone might need a specific character to carry on a plot (it also helps you get involved easier and faster)!
We have a "one character per account" rule. We will not allow anyone to have more than one person on each of their accounts, excepting with twins and children.
We allow the use of "NPC"s, a.k.a. characters who are played on the sideline and do not require their own account or in-depth application. Specific rules regarding NPC character playing are posted in the "Adoptable Characters" board.
Your application title must be in this format: LAST NAME (in caps), First and Middle Name (in title case). All applications must be posted in the "Applications" board. From there admin will either move it to the "Active Characters" board (meaning it has been accepted) or to the "Inactive Characters" board with suggestions for acceptance. If you would rather the admins sent suggestions (if any) through PM, specify so somewhere in your application.
Two unrelated characters cannot have the same surname. It's confusing and unlikely. If you are unsure, check the accepted characters board -- it is organised alphabetically by surname.
Although we are going to be relatively strict with our standards, we welcome with open arms all beginners who are willing to take suggestions and try hard.Being a Member
There will be occasional activity checks -- after all, activity is what keeps a roleplay going. If a character is consistently inactive or a member deletes their account, they will become adoptable. Highly plot-involved characters will probably have a shorter waiting time on this, as they are more likely to be needed to keep the story going. You have the option of requesting that your character not be put up for adoption under these circumstances, and that they instead be "killed" in-character for a seamless continuation of plotline: specify this preference in your character application if you have it, or PM an admin.
If you are going to be away for a while and unable to post, please try your best to get the message in to the admins. We would appreciate it a lot, and it might just save your character if you are going to be gone a long time.
No fighting or cursing in the out of character area or the chat box! Characters can fight all they want, but the war must stay in character and not leave it. This hasn't often posed a problem, but any time that it does, the perpetrator(s) will be promptly removed.
The maximum size for signatures is 498 pixels wide and 250 pixels high. Anything larger will make the forum look ugly.
If you are going to change the default font color, use one that can be seen on every skin. It's kind of mean to make users with such-and-such skin highlight your posts to read them.
Don't steal another person's work and claim it as your own. Ask for their permission and leave proper credit where credit is due.
Please don't 'bump' things.
Moderators of this community reserve the right of banning offenders from the boards, temporarily or permanently, without warning. You may receive an official warning beforehand, or you may not, at the moderators' discretion, based on the severity of the offense. We don't like to lose people, and will be stingy with these powers -- please don't make us do it!
Oh, and -- Smile. ;DIn the Roleplay
Please follow the plot and setting. You aren't expected to be a history expert, but if you aren't sure you should check the reference threads in the Settings board. They are there to help.
Please try to adhere to the common courtesy of good roleplaying; that is: no godmoding, and no mary-sues or gary-stues. If you are a beginner and/or do not know what these things are (which is perfectly alright! If you are willing to put in effort, we welcome you), you will want to refer to the Basic Roleplaying Guide thread that I have posted in explanation.
Deaths and major injuries resulting from a fight must be agreed on by both parties.
We don't have a set post length, but would prefer at least two paragraphs -- something to work from. We all have our bad days, and sometimes when a thread has been going on for a long time things get slow, but we don't take one-liners and will suggest you add more content to your posts if it becomes a frequent issue.
Face claims cannot be cartoons -- this includes anime. You aren't required to use a faceclaim, or have a signature or avatar.
Spell check and grammar-check your posts, please. This includes proper capitalization. There is a spell check button on the bottom of all posts, and Firefox browsers have built-in spell check. If you don't like either method, you can also try typing and checking your posts in a word processor.
Adult content is allowed (within reason -- seriously, this isn't a pornography board), but anything not PG-13 must be conducted through PM or email. If/when two characters are intimate, let an admin know so that they can decide on and PM you the after math. IE, whether or not it resulted in a pregnancy, and any complications that will follow. Most often they will just ask you what you want or make suggestions for plot purposes, so no worries; in 95% of cases it is up to the players.
Violence and swearing is also allowed, though the extreme descriptions of the highly graphic or long strings of curse words should be avoided.
The opening post of each new thread should have a little header of some sort telling what day/time it is. For example:
1st of December, Year LV
5th Hour
The playable times are all days that fall under the month/year listed in the "Calendar" table to the left. Old threads can continue: if you haven't completed a thread that takes place in December when the playable time switches to Undecimber, for example, you have nothing to worry about. The rule only applies to starting new threads. If you are absolutely opposed to putting a header like that, leave it blank and the admin will probably do it for you (though I would appreciate it muchly if you spared me the trouble )
If you become a member, you certify that you agree to these rules in full and will abide by them.
Thank you,
Branborough Admin
