Paris, 1870. High style, high society, high order. There are many worlds here, but only two stir the hearts and minds of the commoners: the fashionable and aristocratic, and the performers. Every night these two classes come together at the Opéra de Paris[/font] to watch La Carlotta[/font] sing. She is the star, and everyone loves her.
But all is not well at the Opéra de Paris. 17-year-old soprano Christine Daaé[/font] has been recently orphaned, and her father left everything to her… including his place on the stage of the Opera House. That is all well and good, but not only does she fascinate the mysterious Opera Ghost[/font], she may well be a better vocalist than La Carlotta herself.
On top of all that, Monsieur Lefèvre has had it up to here with paying the O.G. ₣20,000 a month; their old patron quit for the same reason and their new patron is that wet-behind-the-ears 22-year-old Vicomte de Changy[/font]; La Carlotta is so fed up with said Ghost that she might just leave, taking their male star Piangi[/font] with her; and poor Christine Daaé has taken to sleepwalking all through the backstage area at one in the morning for no apparent reason.
